One year ago, I penned my first Editor’s Note—a reflection written in the hazy afterglow of my arrival. It was about my new hometown farther east and the poor sleeping habits that first made me fall in love with New York City, but ultimately led me on a detour to Dubai, where PassportTalk was born.

A great deal has happened since then—some of it wonderful, some of it challenging, and much of it entirely unexpected.

Over the past year, I have rediscovered my strength, deepened my faith, I have met kindred spirits, learned the meaning of steadfast friendship, discovered that even the hardest chapters can hold unexpected treasures—and went for red nails for the very first time.

Yet some things have not changed. Sleep continues to elude me, curiosity keeps me company, and excitement tugs at my sleeve. One year later, I have renewed my vows to this beautiful and welcoming city.

PassportTalk, now a whole year older, will keep growing as a curated space for those who seek beauty not only in landscapes, but also in the stories, traditions, people, and quiet moments that give a place its soul. I look to the horizon, red nails and all, already looking forward to celebrating the stories that are yet to come.
